Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a higher education and research organisation with about 9,500 employees, 25,000 students, and a total annual budget of about 850 million Euros. KIT was established on 01/10/2009 as merger of Universität Karlsruhe (founded in 1825) and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (founded in 1956), one of the largest national research centres in the Helmholtz Association. KIT builds on the extensive experience its predecessors have gained in EC-funded research from more than 1000 projects up to now.

The Institute for Information Processing Technology (ITIV) is one out of 17 institutes of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology of the KIT. The institute is under the corporate management of Prof. Jürgen Becker, Prof. Eric Sax and Prof. Wilhelm Stork. It concentrates on VLSI integration and computer aided methods for the design of (embedded) electronic systems and microsystems.

University of Peloponnese

The University of the Peloponnese, Greece participates with the Embedded System Design and Applications Lab of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The lab is specialized in the area of embedded and cyberphysical system design. Its main research activities include mainly embedded systems, cyberphysical systems, multi-core systems, optimization techniques for high-end parallel applications, wireless sensor communication technologies and IoT platforms. During the last years, UoP has participated in numerous national and European research programs. In parallel, there is on-going research activity with major local and European companies and research institutes in the area of embedded and cyberphysical system design.

Embedded System Design and Applications Lab is a validated Digital Innovation Hub of European Commission.

German Aerospace Center

DLR is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. In addition to its own research, as Germany’s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility by the federal government for the planning and implementation of the German space programme. DLR is also the umbrella organisation for the nation’s largest project management agency.

DLR has approximately 8000 employees at 16 locations in Germany: Cologne (headquarters), Augsburg, Berlin, Bonn, Braunschweig, Bremen, Goettingen, Hamburg, Juelich, Lampoldshausen, Neustrelitz, Oberpfaffenhofen, Stade, Stuttgart, Trauen, and Weilheim. DLR also has offices in Brussels, Paris, Tokyo and Washington D.C.

The Institute of Flight Systems (FT) is active in the topics of flight mechanics and measurement and system technology of all flying systems at the DLR site Braunschweig since 1953. The institute has 5 departments with a total of about 150 employees. The departments of the institute are Flight Dynamics and Simulation, Rotorcraft, Unmanned Aircraft, Flight Test Instrumentation & IT and Safety Critical Systems & Systems Engineering.

Queen’s University Belfast

Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) was founded in 1845. Today there are approximately 23,000 students. Queen’s is ranked 8th in the UK for Research Intensity with over 75% of research assessed as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (REF 2014). The total value of new research grants and contracts awarded to QUB during 2016-17 was over £100m. The University secured 137 projects under Framework 7, worth a total of €40M and currently has 87 Horizon 2020 awards worth a combined €36M. This includes 5 ICT projects (RAPID, SAFEcrypto, DEVELOP, UniServer and VINEYARD), 2 of which are as coordinator. QUB spin-out companies support 1,850 high-value jobs and generate an annual turnover of £215 million. The Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) is a research centre at Queen’s University Belfast. With a multidisciplinary team of over 90 academics, research fellows, PhD students, and industry experienced engineers, it brings together research specialists in complementary fields including data, network, and physical security systems. The centre has a professional engineering staff who work closely with research teams to identify and draw through innovations. It also has a dedicated Business Development Team with a Commercial Director, focused on building industry links and knowledge transfer opportunities in cyber security. The centre has spun out six new cyber security companies since its inception. fentISS

fentISS is an advanced technology company which provides software solutions enabling critical and non-critical applications to share a common hardware platform without interfering one another (virtualization). In the past few years, fentISS has concentrated its research and innovation activities in mixed-criticality systems in which the main objective has been to assure system safety. By getting involved in XANDAR, the company will develop its technology one step beyond by providing an integrated approach supporting also cyber security. The involvement of an aerospace use case and an automotive use case will also strengthen the validity of the solution by supporting the two main markets which are standardizing on a Time and Space Partitioning (TSP) architecture (through IMA ARINC-653 and AUTOSAR OS) as the one supported by XtratuM hypervisor.
